Today I had an excellent giggle during my morning email check: Beyonce has been accused of “extreme witchcraft”, “dark magic”, and “magic spells of sexual molestation” by a former employee. Drummer Kimberly Thompson filed a restraining order against the singer and was denied.
It’s not the first time Beyonce has been linked to the occult. There is the standard (and less than credible) claim that she’s Illuminati. Then there are legitimate connections between Beyonce and the orishas of African spirituality. Her entrance as Oshun in “Hold up” is an artistic moment that will stay with me for life.
But in the end, it doesn’t matter whether Beyonce is a priestess or if she’s a magical practitioner because it’s her right to practice her religion (whatever it may be) in private without the peanut gallery weighing in. The restraining order was denied because it was nonsense. If something comes out of this, I’m sure we’ll all hear about it.
But until then I think I need to listen to the Lemonade album again.
